This 233-acre natural area was donated by a group of local citizens
of Tracy City who acquired it by subscription in 1935. The group asked
that the tract become a state forest suitable for accommodation Civilian
Conservation Corp Camp S-76. The area soon became one of the most
popular scenic attractions of the region.
On January 26, 2005, I visited Grundy
Forest for a 3.2 mile hike on Fiery Gizzard Trail. I haven't visited
this trail in at least 15 years.
