April 27, 2005 - Foster Falls - Grundy Forest

On April 27, 2005, I went on some short hikes at Foster Falls and then to Grundy Forest. When you want to see some great waterfalls without having to walk very far, these are the places to go. The overlook to Foster Falls is only about 125 yards from the parking lot.
Foster Falls - near 70 feet high, falls into 1.5 acre pool The bluff I'm setting on is 120 feet above the pool of Foster Falls.
After looking at Foster Falls, I decided to go the Fiery Gizzard Loop Trail in Grundy Forest. You can actually hike to Grundy Forest from Foster Falls, but it's about 13 miles. That trip is for another day, I drove.
Just after getting good and started on Fiery Gizzard trail, it began to rain. I took shelter under this huge rock overhang called Cave Spring Rockhouse.
This enormous Hemlock is over 500 years old. There are many others in the area that are close to being this big.

There where several other hikers on this trail today, including a group of 15 from Chattanooga.

Several folks where at Foster Falls also, including a bunch of teenagers that appeared to be on a school field trip.

The Blue Hole falls was as spectacular as ever
I hiked approximately 4 miles total.
